Is nail art stereotyped?

If you know me ever so slightly, you probably knew I was coming with this post up. I love a good nail….I love nail art and all it gobbles up, from short n’ long nails, natural and acrylic, all colors and aesthetics to all shapes, sizes and all that good stuff. Why do women paint their nails? clue; it has nothing to do with men. The vast majority of women’s style decisions are made for themselves and not for the opposite sex, women do things for the same reason men made do things; to please themselves, and not to atrophy from the fact that sometimes it’s to impress their friends, occasionally to impress other women(but that’s besides the point) the point is, its mainly for themselves and its really not that deep. Case, I do believe, closed!

You guys know I hope, how much this column appreciates a little banter. It is you the people that make it worthwhile so believe me when I say tearfully clutching my Oscar that it pains me to criticise the norm and as celebrities are so found of saying these days, ‘I must live my art in truth”. Sorry Peter if I sound grating don’t take it personally, you are merely the watergate to my woodward and Bernstein…. perhaps you are starting to sense a message here, am I being too subtle? I will spell it out as I must expose what really going on here.

ACCEPT YOUR HAIR TEXTURE

Ladies I do not want to hear any one say ‘natural hair just is not for me’ there is nothing more meant for you than what grows out of your scalp, surely there should be a better line for diversion than that, anyway I digress. This is not going to be a post where I bamboozle you into the natural hair community or natural hair lifestyle, and its certainly not the ‘if you do not wear your hair natural you deserve hell!’ kinda post. Don’t get me wrong I will not be talking in subliminals either, but will rather keep it raw and real(see what I did there?). And incase you can’t tell already this conversation is going to lean more towards the 4b/4c gang(family),simply because its much needed and called for seeing as to how we don’t often get any love and support. And let’s not talk about the hypocritical 4c/4b haired men that call Afro-crowned women shabby or dirty!(it’s a rant for another day). I like to think am an auteur which is French for otter or croissant, the point is I think have sound judgement…. and with that being said, allow me put in my two cents.

why you should love your dark skin

Hey you dark skinned girl, yes you! your skin is mind-boggling and beautiful. Did you know that your skin color is darker for good evolutionary and biological reasons and medically speaking it is good that you do not have very fair skin? So when you walk these Kampala streets and people marvel at your skin, that’s not disdain, its all love even when its delivered with scoffs…I kid you not! some may not recognize beauty when they see it and that’s okay. And no this is not an anti white post or racism rant, this is to uplift my people and reminding them of the beauty and glory they clearly posses, listen! I will hype a black/African girl any day at any time simply because I should and because we are not told enough just how beautiful this dark glow is.
